A visit to Saluda isn’t complete without exploring its local dining scene. Our charming mountain town may be small, but it’s packed with personality—and flavor. From cozy bakery cafés and lively bars to elevated takes on Southern classics, there’s something here for every palate. We’ve gathered our go-to list of Saluda restaurants, where the atmosphere is as welcoming as the food is memorable. And it’s all just a short drive from Whispering Falls.
1. The Purple Onion Saluda
On warm summer evenings, it’s not uncommon to see guests mingling outside The Purple Onion, drinks in hand as they wait for a table and chat with friendly faces—locals and visitors alike. That welcoming, community-centered vibe was part of the original owner’s vision, and it continues to thrive under the current ownership.
The menu balances beloved staples like the Painted Hills Farm Ribeye and Sunburst Mountain Trout with rotating seasonal specials that highlight fresh, local ingredients. Pizzas range from classic to creative—try the Wild Mushroom & Arugula, with sautéed seasonal mushrooms, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette. The drink list is just as thoughtfully curated, with over 60 wines, rotating microbrew taps, and an inventive craft cocktail menu that always includes mocktail options.
Live music fills the air a couple nights a week, making the covered garden patio an even more appealing place to unwind. Reservations are highly recommended, especially in peak season—after all, there’s a reason The Purple Onion is consistently ranked among the best Saluda restaurants.

3. Green River BBQ Saluda
Absolutely the best wings we’ve ever had—no contest—and the sides are every bit as crave-worthy! When the craving hits for hearty, soul-satisfying comfort food, Green River BBQ never lets us down. We always end up with more food than we planned because everything on the menu is just that tempting. The wings are first smoked, then flash-fried, and finished with mouthwatering sauces (we’re obsessed with the Asian Sweet Chili). Don’t skip the Mac N Cheese—baked to golden, cheesy perfection—or the Tomato Pie, a true Southern classic. Come hungry, or plan to take some home.
